For the Waitomo Art Festival the students completed a self-portrait.
We were given paper and three colours; yellow, red and blue. We were also given white. We had to mix the colours in a spare carton. First we had to paint our background Then we had to draw our bodies with chalk. Then we painted our body’s skin colour. And then we did our clothes. We got tiny brushes and painted our flowers. The hardest colour to make was blonde for my hair. I was happy with my painting, it looked like me. Cherry.
As part of the reading programme David and Caleb have been learning to reserach topics on the internet and in books.
They have been learning to take notes.
Make notes.
Write up their notes back into sentences and put into a presentation (initialling using a preset template)
This was the first attempt either boy had had at partiallly independent (with ongoing support and discussion) research and sharing of information that they had located in this format.
The teacher had bookmarked several relevant sites and located books for their research.
The boys then had to read the information and select relevant and interesting information that they wanted to share from the various formats, and select information using preset headings they had decided on after discussion with the teacher.
Part of the learning process was for the boys to publish their results and to see what could be changed and 'what am I going to do next time' to improve the locating and sharing of information.
This is an ongoing reading programme for the boys and is only at the initial stages.
